A very funny little game! Mechanics are simple yet very catchy,  once you try it you'll find yourself hooked to the screen trying to beat your own previous score!

A nice addition to your PlayDate library for sure, highly recommended!

Thank you AngelicShooter! You've totally got the spirit of the game! Proud that my game is part of your Playdate game library!

this game was pretty frustrating--once you see that a fruit is a bomb, it's hard to avoid it, and not all that satisfying to get a higher score. I'm happy to support new Playdate devs on itch, but I felt like the other reviews were a little disingenuous.

Hi Rachel, thank you for your comment .

In games like this, if you can always predict and avoid objects that cause damage, they can become boring. The game is designed to be challenging, and by playing and replaying, you'll improve your reflexes and become increasingly skilled. This is a game design technique typical of games from the '80s and '90s, where the real challenge was to improve your skills with the game.

Also, consider that once a player is hit, they can't be damaged by bombs again. You can use this feature to develop a strategy, enhance your skills, and perform better.

Thank you again for your feedback, and I encourage you to keep playing. With perseverance, you'll master the game and find satisfaction in your progress. Trust me! :)

how is this blind-friendly, since it has the tag?

Hi darksand123,

thank you for your question. Since I've also had difficulty playing many games on Playdate due to my visual impairment, I’ve emphasized certain elements to make my game more accessible for players with visual challenges.

Specifically, these are the elements I focused on:

  1. Audio Cues: Distinct sounds that provide feedback on in-game actions and events
  2. Simple Controls: You can play just using the crank
  3. Bigger Sprites: Larger character and object sprites compared to other games, making them easier to see and distinguish.
  4. High Contrast: Strong contrast between sprites and background graphics to enhance visibility and reduce visual strain.

By integrating these features, I hope to create a more enjoyable and accessible gaming experience for everyone, including those with visual impairments.

Cheers!

could you also add screen-reader support and other features for totally blind?

It's a bit challenging because the Playdate SDK does not provide APIs for screen-reader support. However, I'm working on a rhythm game where every action is guided by audio feedback. I will give you updates in the future, and if you are willing, I may ask for some information to help me create a game that is as suitable as possible for a visually impaired audience

i'll help you with that, if the rhythm game is playable by fully blind people.

idk if this'll help, but sequence storm and bits and bops are some fully accessible rhythm games.

there're also some rhythm audiogames which are accessible.

I love how this game utilizes the Playdate's crank mechanic. The gameplay is simple yet keeps you glued to the screen. I'm trying to beat my own record! 😂
